JURGEN OELTJENBRUNS.
Born in Oldenburg, Germany 1968.



Apprentice in traditional men’s tailoring and costume design at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater. Leaves for West Berlin, age 19, in search of something new. Made Head of Wardrobe & Costume Production on Robert Wilson’s The Forest at Theater Der Freien Volksbuhne. Watches the Berlin Wall fall down.

Leaves for London, age 21, in search of more dependable walls. Hired by the Royal Opera House where his eye for contemporary design is noted and encouraged to apply to the Royal College of Art. After his portfolio interview, he becomes the first student to be accepted into the Master’s Degree for Men’s fashion Design without an undergraduate degree.

At his graduation fashion show, Gianni Versace handpicks him to move to Milan and to design for Versace. In the wake of Versace’s death, Donatella promotes him to Design Director of Versus Uomo & Femme where he stays for five years, overseeing concept & creation of all new lines, directing the design team, conceiving and realising all fashion shows, advertising campaigns, and special events.

Leaves for San Francisco, age 32, to focus on his own aesthetic and to re-evaluate his desires within the fashion industry. Hired by the original founders of Banana Republic

as Head of Menswear for The ZoZo Corporation – a dot.com fashion company that aimed to integrate sports & active-wear materials into high fashion designs. Like so many pioneering dot.com dreamers, there was a misunderstanding of how internet supply and demand functioned for high fashion. Instantly snagged as Men’s Design Director for Club Monaco, New York. After three years, headhunted by Donna Karan and made Senior Design Director of DKNY Men’s, where his impulse to build his own brand is born.

2005 - opens his signature line and aesthetic, Oeltjenbruns Inc. – hand-made tailoring with subtle, unique, innovative variations on classical themes. The quality is in the detail: materials & craftsmanship.

Redley of Rio de Janiero, Brazil offer him the title Creative Director to expand their renowned brand into a full fashion line. Feels like a rare, exciting opportunity to work in a key emerging economy and to expand his own vision. His Redley lines receive unanimous critical praise; continues to develop and sell Oeltjenbruns Inc.

After three years on Brazilian time, returns to New York to focus and expand Oeltjenbruns Inc.
